Headstone of Matthew and Emma Ironmonger.
Searching for Family in Corby
16 April 2009
By John Ironmonger
The trip to England so far has been very interesting. After a couple of days in London doing the tourist thing, we moved on the Corby in Northampshire. A visit to the old Corby cemetery today proved productive to searchers of the Ironmonger heritage.
Matthew and Emma Ironmonger who passed away early in the 20th century, were the ancestors of todays Ironmongers in the Corby region. A number of other Ironmonger headstones were found in the old Corby Cemetery and confirmed the family names we had gathered.
A chance to meet and discuss the Ironmonger family with some local descendants of Matthew and Emma today and over the next few days will be very exciting. After a life time of only knowing two generations of Ironmongers, but being told there are many more back in England, it is great to get to see real evidence of their existence and actually talk to other Ironmongers in the family.
